This year we realized significant savings by changing our web site host from earthlink.net to godaddy.com. Most of the files have been successfully uploaded. Still to be completed:
> Archives: All committee reports back to 2006 have been loaded. We do not have any documents from the last AGM as yet. These can be provided as word documents and we can make the necessary changes. Our goal is to get the archives uploaded within 3 months.
> Alumni Ads: Only two alumni have signed up for this option. Since we changed our web host, the ads section was given a lower priority. Our goal is to get this completed within 3 months. We will honor those who have made a contribution to get their business advertised on our site.
> Chat: All files have been uploaded for the Chat site. I am waiting for our external consultant to implement the web site link which will enable alumni to register. More details on how the Chat site will operate will be forwarded as soon as we launch.
Please bear in mind that when submitting documents for the web site, it is best to follow these guidelines:
Font: Use verdana font: It was especially designed for the web and is easier to read.
Images/Flyers: Try to keep images to about 600 pixels wide by 345 pixels high (or 8.5 “ wide x 4.5” high). This will enable viewers to see the entire image on their screen without having to scroll down or across. Saving these images as .jpg files will make uploading easier. Do not use more than 3 fonts on your document (some users may not have access to some fonts so keep it simple). Always send me the original document since I may have to make changes to keep in line with web site designing rules.
We will continue to work with the various committees to make our web site attractive, user friendly, and current.
