Membership Committee Report - October 2010

The new membership committee began to function on April 18th with its main goals being to increase membership and to identify more events for socializing and having more fun!

To that end we embarked on a membership drive through phone calls to reach out to lapsed members on our mailing list, through e-mail contact and finally by mail. On September 25th, we mailed 139 reminder letters. In order to communicate the work of the organization and increase awareness, a St. Rose’s Alumni Association brochure was published.

Our first social event was held on July 17th at Pauline Willis’s home in the form of a games evening. There was a modest entry fee and food and drinks were sold. A good time was had by all and the event netted approximately $300. We were able to attract younger alums to join as members of the organization.

On Labor Day weekend, the Membership committee assisted the PR to set up a booth at the Guyana Cultural Day again with the goal of increasing awareness of the organization and connecting with potential members. The result was terrific as our booth became a place for alumni attending the event to reconnect with friends and former classmates.

For the remainder of the year we intend to continue with our drive through mailings, phone calls, etc. We would also like to have an event tailored to cultivating younger alumni such as a Friday after work hang or a karaoke night. Some other ideas that have been discussed are pot-luck night or a fish fry.

Currently the association has 46 members.

Thanks to you all for your support; we continue to welcome your ideas and suggestions. We have only started and have a long way to go towards our target number of members.
