This year the Fund Raising Committee held two events in an effort to raise funds to cover the costs of projects at our alma mater, St. Rose’s High School.
> Memorial Weekend Dance – May 24, 2008
> Labor Weekend Dance – August 30, 2008
Going into the first event, I must admit Naline and I were a little nervous about our pre ticket sales. However, with your support and the support of our family and friends, we realized a profit of $4,692.97. The Memorial Weekend dance was an extreme success. Because this was the first time we booked at this location, it was uncertain what to expect. It entailed hard work setting up before the dance. As promised, Naline booked her male friends and got them working to set up before the dance and helping to get the hall cleaned out after. Thanks to Simone and her mom and to my daughters who also showed up to assist us. A generous donation of patties from Golden Krust was greatly appreciated.
Sometime around March, we were invited by St. Stanislaus and St. Joseph’s alumni associations to join them in a joint venture for a dance on Labor Day weekend. Naline, Ingrid, Beverly W., Pansy and I represented St. Rose’s at a series of meetings leading up to this event. The collaboration between the representatives from these associations made it easier for us to complete this task. During the planning, each association was given assignments to accomplish. Again, because of your donations and aggressive ticket sales, the association made a profit of $3,130.92. I am proud to say that St. Rose’s was the top ticket seller selling the two hundred tickets assigned to the association. Although, we sometimes second guess ourselves about our success, one of the representatives actually complimented our association in the manner we manage our event planning and our events. It was a unanimous decision to capture that day as our staple event for that weekend. One thing we know for sure is that everyone had a “grand ole” time because we could not get our patrons to leave the hall after the event. After some discussion and some minor changes, the three associations have rebooked the hall and the DJ for 2009 and plans are well underway to make this event a bigger success. Anyone who supported us or played a role in making this event “huge”…..we thank and appreciate you!! We should all be proud of ourselves!!
As you know, we cancelled our Tea Party planned for November since we felt that it was too soon to target the same support base so soon after the Labor Day weekend dance. Plans are in process to find a location for sometime in February/March 2009. Stay tuned for more information. With the profits from this event, we will meet our $10,000 target for the fiscal year.
Naline is still listed as co-chair since she graciously decided to stay on to manage the above projects. As co-chairs of this Committee, we would personally like to thank all alumni and friends who supported us. Our efforts would be in vain, if we did not personally thank Pansy, Brenda H., Brenda B, Ingrid, Beverly W., Marcelle, Monika, Simone, Beverley M., Cheryl Smith, Compton, Cheryl Alleyne, Carol and Kirk and our family members. I would like to thank Naline for making my co-chair task so easy and I look forward to working with Brenda on future projects.
