ABOUT US

 

On December 29, 1994, the St. Rose's Alumni Association USA (NYC) was granted incorporation under the laws of the State of New York as a 501c3 Not-for-Profit organization.

Our mission is as follows:

- To establish a network among past pupils of the St. Rose's High School (Ursuline Convent) worldwide;

- To improve the quality of education and environment of St. Rose's High School, Georgetown, Guyana here after referred to as St. Rose's; and

- To raise funds so as to meet the needs of present faculty, staff, and students of St. Rose's by utilizing our membership resources.

The primary function of the Executive Board is to formulate policy. Various committees are elected to execute functions as delegated by the Executive Board.

The EB voted and approved in the 2008 AGM that the positions of President, Treasurer, Secretary, Ex-officio and one Board Member will serve a two-year term.  The Vice President, Asst. Secty/Treasurer and the second Board Member will serve a one-year term.

Major accomplishments of the association, in conjunction with the Canadian Chapter and Government of Guyana, in 2007 include the following:

** Repairs to the Physics Lab: Alumni Association - New York.
** Repairs to the Chemistry Lab: Alumni Association - New York.
** Landscaping of Our Lady Statue Area: Alumni Association - New York.
** Lawn Maintenance Equipment project: Alumni Association - New York.
** Repairs to the Biology Lab: Alumni Associations - New York/Canada.
** Repairs to the Home Economics Room: Alumni Association - Canada.
** Repairs and refurbishing of Staff Room: Alumni Association - Local Chapter.
** Repairs to the Marian Wing: The Ministry of Education, Guyana.
** Awards for outstanding Academic Achievement: funded by the New York Alumni.
** Motivational Retreat for Teachers (September 2007): funded by the Canadian/New York Chapters.
** Two book shipments: funded by the New York Alumni.
** Trophies, medals & cups for Athletic meet: funded by the New York Alumni.

Current goals include the following:

  • renovating the Basket Ball Courts
  • repairing/refurbishing the library
  • purchasing a router for Headmistress’ Office
  • outfitting all the Science Labs (Canadian Chapter)
  • purchasing 33 computers for the computer room
  • purchasing 12 computers for the library for research purposes
  • supplying equipment for the Industrial Arts Room
